National Winner - Youth Category Our national winner in the youth category has a simple mission to do all she can to change the lives of children and improve their communities, wherever they may be located.
This young lady has made incredible strides at both the local and international levels. She has traveled to remote and economically depressed areas in Venezuela and Mexico, to teach bible school, and help with projects such as the construction of a pharmacy and a community basketball court.
Katharine was so determined to help those in need that she raised funds for her travels by writing letters to over 50 potential sponsors explaining her strong desire to do volunteer work in a foreign country.
In addition to her work abroad, our national youth winner has done much to help those in her own community. She serves on The Awareness Team, a group sponsored by the Camp Fire Boys and Girls, that teaches middle-schoolers the importance of making informed decisions about pre-marital sex. Katharine speaks openly about the risks of sexually transmitted diseases and teenage pregnancy. Through the formation of a support group called the "Small Group" in Santa Rosa County that meets weekly, she is helping sophomore girls cope with the social pressures of high school. At her church's Sunday school she is teaching 3rd graders through 5th graders the meaning of service to others. She also sits on her church's administrative board, high school advisory and the Pensacola Teen Board.
Katharine Tillman's commitment to serving others and her dedication to social responsibilities makes her an outstanding role model.
Our special congratulations to Katharine Tillman, our Spirit of Women National Winner in the Youth Category.
